Porter: He no longer complains of headaches and eye pain.

Before Vision Therapy:

Before vision therapy Porter did not like to read and he would complain of headaches with eye pain. He would try to get out of reading if he could. ~ Lisa (mom)

After Vision Therapy:

Porter no longer argues when he has to read. He does not complain much of headaches or eye pain. He seems to keep good time while reading, and is not skipping sentences or words. He also feels more confident to read “chapter books” and feels his hand eye coordination has improved with sports. ~ Lisa (mom)

Grace: Her confidence has improved with reading and in sports!

Before Vision Therapy:
Grace didn’t enjoy reading at all! She would throw fits and tantrums to get out of reading. She was less confident in all aspects of academics.~ Sarah (mom)

After Vision Therapy:
Grace reads much better. Her level of reading went from a grade below average to average in just 9 months. She also shows more confidence in sports, both when catching and hitting the softball. Through the vision therapy process, Grace started to ask to read. She now demonstrates more initiative and her focus has improved. ~ Sarah (mom)

Carter: Vision therapy has helped Carter tremendously!

Before Vision Therapy:

Carter struggled with reading and extra help at school wasn’t making a huge difference. And because his reading was so challenging he never wanted to read. He was getting eye strain and headaches from looking at the smart board and back down again at his school work all day.

After Vision Therapy:

Vision therapy has helped Carter tremendously! He says it’s easier to read more difficult words, and to process sentences and paragraphs more easily. He has also improved with his comprehension, and his eye strain and headaches have decreased. Not only has he closed the gap on his reading and is now very close to state average, he has improved in other areas like math. We are forever thankful for the therapists Dr. Oakland and the growth and confidence Carter has! We will continue to carry this into the 4th grade! ~ Carrie (Mom)

A.J. : He no longer loses his place when he is reading!

Before Vision Therapy:

At the beginning of 1st grade, w noticed that A.J. was having a lot of trouble reading and counting. He was evaluated and determined to have a learning disability in reading and ADHD. He worked very hard but just could not keep up and was easily frustrated. He read almost entirely phonetically, sounding out every sound. He often would lose his spot on the page and read using his finger. He was losing confidence and was losing his love for books. ~ Donae (mom)

After Vision Therapy:

A.J. started vision therapy half way through the 2nd grade, and we noticed gradual changes at first. He no longer struggled with small words that troubled him before. He did not omit words or lose his place when reading as often. By mid-way though the program, he stopped using his finger to track words and was reading more fluently. His reading level that had been the same throughout most of 2nd grade, had suddenly started to increase. He also gained confidence as a reader. He continues to work hard but he now has a renewed interest in reading. ~ Donae (mom)

Kayne: Has confidence he never had before!

BEFORE VISION THERAPY

Kayne struggled with reading, he would wait at his desk for his teacher to come around the room and read to him. He would get so frustrated and angry if he had reading homework. While it would take us some time to get through it, he hated it! School was hard for him.

AFTER VISION THERAPY

Kayne no longer struggles at the task of reading. He reads on his own and begs to read at bedtime. In general, school is much easier. He is able to read and understand what he has read.He has confidence he never had before! We will forever be grateful for what vision therapy has done for him! There is a special place in our hearts for Sue and Dr. Oakland! ~ Libby (Mom)

Emery: No longer gets headaches from reading.

Before Vision Therapy:
Emery had a hard time doing homework and would cry most days when doing it. She said reading made her head hurt, and that she didn't like it. She struggled to to read and didn't have much confidence when reading.

After Vision Therapy:
Homework has gotten easier, and can be completed quicker. She no longer gets headaches from reading. Her confidence has improved and she loves to read street signs as we are driving in the car. Most nights she reads before bed and actually enjoys reading now. ~ Heather (Emery's Mom)
